Even though we are just in the second week of January, Valentine’s Day will be here before we know it.

And since I was gifted by Princeton Brush (my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE) a filbert brush to try out, I wanted to paint something that anyone can try out.

So today, I will be sharing a simple watercolor tutorial on how to paint a cute Valentine’s Day cake card.

Supplies Needed:

  1. Start by cutting your watercolor paper to the size of card that you would like.

  2. Mix equal amounts of the colors Teacher’s Pet and Tiny Umbrellas together using your paint brush on you white plate.

  3. Load your filbert brush with the newly mixed magenta color and paint a thick stripe for the bottom layer of the cake.

  4. Add a small amount of water to the magenta mixture on the plate to lighten the hue (or shade) of your paint. Pick up that color on your brush and paint another stripe above the previous one to make the next cake layer.

  5. Repeat step four, gradually getting lighter in hue, until you get a total of four cake layers painted.

  6. Using Silvery Winters, paint your cake stand.

  7. Once your cake layers are dry, use the dark magenta color to paint in flower blossoms on the top. Mix on your plate the colors Jungle Gym and Recess Rebel and paint in the leaves for the flowers.

  8. Once your painting is fully dry, it’s time to add a cute Valentine’s Day message with your Pigma Micron 01 pen. And Viola! You are finished!
