Blueberry & Peach Picking at Chiles Orchard in Crozet, VA

A box filled with fresh picked peaches sits below a peach tree

Last week, I shared our time visiting Luray, Virginia. Today, I am going to finish off that memorable summer trip by sharing our last stop to the Chiles Peach Orchard and Farm Market in Crozet, Virginia.

If you have been following me on Instagram, you may remember that our family made a Summer 2022 Bucket List of items we wanted to do before the end of the season. “Going Peach Picking” is one of those items and so I decided to add that to the end of our Luray Trip since it would be easy to visit on the way back home.

Right off a small country road in Crozet, Virginia, the Chiles Peach Orchard and Farm Market is the perfect quick Summer family destination.

We first visited the farm market to purchase our “pick your own fruit” basket and box. During this time of the year (we visited in early July), families can choose to pick blueberries and peaches. Which is exactly what we did!

After a quick walk to the blueberry bushes across the street from the market, we were ready to do some picking! Be sure to put on sunscreen and wear a hat if you choose to visit as there aren't any trees to shade you from the sun. But the view is gorgeous and the hubby and I had a blast looking for all of the “best,” ripe blueberries that were nestled in the shade of the bushes. Quick tip? Look for blueberries that have a deep blue/purple color to them and look a bit “ashy.” Those will be the sweetest! Avoid any that have a reddish or green spots on them.

After we filled our basket with blueberries, we decided to beat the heat and head across the street to grab some peach soft serve ice cream. Y’all. This stuff is like a DREAM. I don’t know how they make their soft serve but it is the fluffiest and lightest soft serve I have ever had! I kept telling the hubby it was like eating peach whipped cream. So if you happen to visit, do not forget to grab yourself a cone or a sundae topped with their famous peach cider donuts. That’s right. PEACH CIDER DONUTS. I don’t think I need to say more on that subject.

After our quick cool down, it was on to the main event. Walking down the rows of trees, it was time to get some peaches! Unlike blueberries that no longer ripen once picked, peaches will continue to ripen after you pick them. Which was a good thing to know since most of the peaches were hard to the touch when we plucked them from the tree branches. We carefully picked our choice peaches and filled our box to the brim with yummy summer fruit. It always is a treat for me to watch my kids joyfully spend time in nature and this experience was worth every penny.

Before we headed out, we purchased a dozen peach cider donuts and peach cider slushies for the road and we were on our way back to good ol’ Williamsburg, Virginia.

The perfect ending to a wonderful family summer trip if I do say so myself.

Here is a look at all of the yummy goodies we made from our bounty of fruit!
